Summit Tax Solutions was founded in Eugene, Oregon by Randy and Cathy Rasmussen. In July 2007, the company was organized as a domestic limited liability company with the State of Oregon (RN 451199-97). The company is currently registered with the State of Oregon Board of Tax Practitioners (OBTP# B14747), and is an authorized E-File provider and PTIN program associate with the United States Internal Revenue Service. Summit’s service mark, ‘Think Outside the Block!’, has been recognized by the State of Oregon  (RN 40023) since 2007.

 

Randy has been an active tax practitioner since 2002. Randy holds a PhD from Purdue University and has been licensed as a tax consultant in the State of Oregon (LTC# 28613C) since 2006. He is currently an active member of the Oregon Society of Tax Consultants and is a Vice President of the South Willamette Chapter.

 

Randy started his tax career at Jackson Hewett Tax Service, where he was employed for 5 years. Initially, he provided support services as a licensed tax return preparer but for the last 2 years set-up and completely managed a seasonal tax office in Springfield, Oregon at Gateway. Each year, Randy completes at least 30 hours of continuing professional education in tax law and ethics, with 8 hours devoted to federal and Oregon State updates. He regularly participates in the annual 2-day item writing committee at the Oregon State Board of Tax Practitioners in Salem to develop examination materials for those who wish to become licensed as a tax consultant. He has volunteered in the AARP Tax-Aide program in Eugene which provides free tax preparation assistance to the elderly and/or low income. Randy has also instructed his colleagues in specialized tax topics, including Taxation of Nonresident and Resident Aliens (Foreign Students), Reconciling the Premium Tax Credit in the Affordable Care Act, Tax-Related Identity Theft, and Exclusion of Certain Medicaid Waiver Payments from Income.
